Choose a folder on your computer, browse its files and manage them locally. You decide which folders the desktop app can access; the cloud workspace cannot browse your computer by itself.

The AI organization workflow is designed to suggest clearer names and folder arrangements. Review the proposed changes before approving them. Managed AI requires setup and is not publicly enabled yet.
Make room for active work
Planned AI-assisted cleanup will help you review what to keep locally and what to move to cloud storage. You’ll approve removals after checking the retained copy. This cleanup assistance is not available yet.
You choose what stays and what goes. Uploading a file does not automatically remove its local copy or free disk space.

Upload selected files through the web workspace today. The desktop workflow adds optional cloud links and manual transfers for chosen files, rather than automatically syncing your computer.

Can I store any kind of file?
Yes, up to 5 GB (5,000,000,000 bytes) per file, subject to project capacity. Original files stay downloadable. Text extraction and content search currently support plain text, Markdown, CSV and JSON within processing limits.
Does Files for AI include an AI chat?
Files for AI provides the files, permissions and retrieval. You use a compatible connected assistant to work with them. There is no built-in chat or semantic search service.
Will uploading files free space on my computer?
No. Uploading creates a cloud copy; it does not delete local files. Verify the cloud version and your backup needs before separately removing an original. Recoverable removal can retain the bytes on disk, so space is not reclaimed until the relevant recovery copies are also removed. Removing those copies can prevent undo. Desktop uploads can temporarily require extra disk space for a local snapshot. There is no automatic disk cleaner, duplicate finder or automatic space-reclamation feature.
Can an AI agent read files directly from my computer?
The hosted connection can access authorized files stored in your cloud projects. It cannot inspect local paths by itself. The desktop app works within folders you explicitly select; organizing local files and sharing selected files to the cloud are separate choices.
Will it organize the files on my computer?
The cloud workspace stores files you upload. A separate desktop app is in development for local AI file organization, with reviewed changes and optional manual cloud links. Public desktop downloads are not available yet. Explore the desktop organizer.
